Much more energy efficient than a tumble dryer

Brits have been told of a secret way to help dry their laundry without using costly heating. Dehumidifiers work by sucking moisture out of the air, leaving more room for the damp from the clothes.

They are also great for getting rid of condensation, dampness and mould which can come from drying laundry in the colder months, BirminghamLive reports. They also work out cheaper than tumble dryers.

A good dehumidifier will cost just 1.2p an hour to run. This compares to around £1.30 an hour for a tumble dryer.

Of course, a dehumidifier will take longer than a tumble dryer to dry your clothes. But they are far more energy efficient and could help you save on your annual energy bills.

Lots of dehumidifiers now even have a laundry mode, which runs the appliance at its highest fan speed and aims to lower the humidity by 40%. Not only does that work by pulling in moist air, it also pushes out warmer air than the room temperature in colder months.

Depending on the room temperature, a dehumidifier will take around four to five hours to do the same job as a tumble dryer in one hour. Though much longer, it is certainly worth it to save on expensive heating costs.

Amazon has plenty of cheap dehumidifier options, though this Inventor Fresh 12L Dehumidifier comes recommended as a good budget option. It has mostly five star reviews with many saying they are “extremely pleased”.

For even less, this XAXAZON Dehumidifier on Amazon costs £39.99 and comes widely recommended. It’s small and lightweight, perfect for smaller homes, and shuts off automatically when full.

If you’re looking to invest in a good quality dehumidifier, take a look at the Princess Smart Dehumidifier on Amazon, which connects to an app so you can even check it when you’re out. It only uses 350W per hour, meaning it costs around 18.20p per hour as of October 1.
